ABOUT THE POSITION
This professional, experienced nursing class performs medical examinations and evaluations on children and youth prior to placement in a group care or long-term care facility, including individuals who may be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other substances. Depending upon assignment, follow-up care and monitoring may be required. This class requires possession of a license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.
The successful candidate will start at the middle of the salary range, $72,176.00.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.
Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved 2-year nursing college or program and two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse in a clinic, hospital or public health setting or graduation from a 4-year Bachelor of Science nursing college or program.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Pass a detailed background investigation. Work evening, night or holiday shifts. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous medications and bodily fluids. Work with exposure to difficult or abusive clients.
Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment. Must possess and maintain a license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada at time of application.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Must not have any qualifying offense that violates the standards required by NRS 432B.198 and/or NRS 432B.199
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs or assists doctors in performing medical assessments on children, youth or social service clients of any age prior to placement in a group care or long-term care facility, including individuals who may be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other substances. Administers medications and other treatments as required; draws blood for laboratory tests and performs other standard diagnostic procedures; prepares patients for doctor's examinations and assists during such examinations, and performs related professional nursing duties. Performs daily intervention for injured or ill clients; performs nursing rounds in juvenile facilities, notes medical problems and refers for doctor's care or treats as possible; ensures that facility staff is aware of medical conditions and have required instructions for action. Responds to medical emergencies in juvenile facilities; assesses the situation, provides immediate assistance and/or calls for paramedics and ambulance for transport as required. Prepares and maintains medical records and files, including laboratory tests and their results and medications and other treatments administered and actions taken; reviews and updates charts for children and youth involved in the court system until age eighteen; prepares documentation for microfilming and inactive storage. Conducts audits of nursing homes and group care facilities, both in Clark County and various parts of the State to audit patient care and ensure quality of service in facilities with clients under the social service system. Conducts pre-contract inspections of nursing homes or group care facilities; conducts quality assurance inspections and investigates complains against facilities as necessary. Confers with probation officers, child protective service staff, case workers, private medical care providers, parents or guardians and others regarding client conditions and care; coordinates public and private service provisions; follows-up as required to ensure the well-being of the client. Works with legal staff as requested in the preparation of court cases and the resolution of complaints; testifies in court as required. Prepares a variety of reports, correspondence and other written materials as required. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Assists in the training of facility staff in recognizing and dealing with medical situations. Uses standard office and medical equipment in the course of the work; orders supplies as required. Drives a County or personal motor vehicle in the course of the work to visit various work sites and facilities.
Mobility to work in a typical office, clinic or detention setting, including stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, and strength to examine and treat varied individuals; ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds; mobility of drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials including a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
